A Buddhist-centered recovery meeting. Refuge Recovery is a practice, a process, a set of tools, a treatment, and a path to healing addiction and the suffering caused by addiction. The main inspiration and guiding philosophy for the Refuge Recovery program are the teachings of Siddhartha (Sid) Gautama, a man who lived in India twenty-five hundred years ago. Refuge Recovery is a community of people who are using the practices of mindfulness, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity to heal the pain and suffering that addiction has caused in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. The path of practice that we follow is called the Four Truths and Actions of Refuge Recovery. This path has proven successful with addicts, alcoholics and those suffering from process addictions. The Four Truths practice requires commitment to meditation, generosity, kindness, and renunciation. This is an approach to recovery that understands “All beings have the power and potential to free themselves from suffering.”
About Foundation for Recovery and the Community Recovery Center:
The Foundation for Recovery has operated as Nevada’s statewide Recovery Community Organization (RCO) supporting and advocating for people and families impacted by addiction and overdose.
The first of its kind in Nevada, The Foundation for Recovery’s community recovery center is a social hub and enriching space operated by and for people who are recovering from addiction and our families. The center is like a recovery co-op, members help contribute to the community here, offering support and service to other members. The Community Recovery Center provides members with a safe space to access a small cafe, a computer lab, bus cards and transportation assistance, and access to a variety of activities, workshops, and meetings. Both members and non-members find a wealth of support and a community founded on the principle of radical acceptance.
